1 TAKAKA RACES. Tlic Takaka Racing Club's annual race meeting took place at the Rototai course on. Wednesday. There was a record attendance) of the public, and the weather was perfect, while the track was in splendid order. There were good fields for all events, and the finishes, which with one. exception, were not close, were far from being uninteresting. The First Class Hack, l>oular}y known as the Takaka Cup, was won by the locally owned horse Pure Rose, and was the surprise of the meeting. King Try, a successful {/erformer on the West Coast during the Christmas and "Now Year holidays, was made a warm favourite, but was unplaced. The Takaka Brass Band was in attendance and played numer- , ous selections. The officials all worked hard to ensure the success of the meeting, which was one of the most successful held under the auspices of the Club. Wild Bird and Pure Roso went to the front together, and fought out a capital finish, the former gaining tho verdict by a length.
