SCHOOL BUILDINGS GRANTS.

[United Press Association.] Auckland, Feb. 2. At the meeting of the Board ot Education the chairman stated that the grant for the maintenance or school buildings had been reduced to £6286 from £7346. The reduction was announced after three-fourths ot tlie financial year had gone. It was resolved to inform the Minister tot ■■ Education that unless provision were made for a grant of at. least £UW for the next year, the Board would be unable to meet its legitimate charges for the maintenance or school buildings. Christchurch, Feb. 1. The proposed reduction by the Education' Department of ™?.- buil <*: ing grants allowed to the different education, boards, came in for some criticism at the meeting of the Nortb Canterbury Education Board. The chairman moved, and •it was agreed "That this Board strongly protests against the serious reduction that has been made in the grant for this year, especially as the reduction was made without notice."
