The Departriient of Industries and (Sommerce has received the following cable from the High_ Commissioner dated London, 3rd April:— - The mutton market continues dull. Large quantities- h:|ve put in store, and lal-ge shipments are expected, Canterbury mutton is quoted, at 3Jd and North Island at 23d per lb. . Tre lamb market, is depressed, although there is a^ better demand at present low prices "on account of East-\ er- The following are the current quotations :— Canterbury lamb 4fd; other than Canterbury, 4Jd ; Austra-. lian 3Jd per lb. ; There is a better demand for beef, hind quarters being quoted at 3Jd and fore quarters at 2|d per ib> . . ■ -The butter market i§ dull. Large buyers have withdrawn from the market and prices have" declined. There is a considerable quantity of the butter now arriving being placed in cold ;storage. The hemp market is quiet but rather steadier. Stock held in London amounts to 210 tons. Current ■quotations are: Good fair grade, on spot, £23 ss; fair grade on spot. £21 10s ; fair current Manila, on spot, £23. April June shipments : Good fair 1 grade, £23; fair grade £21; fair cur[rent Manila, £21.
