NELSON HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

• — ■ — o A meeting of the committee of the Horticultural Society was held last evening. : A reply was. received from the Department of Agriculture, promising an exhibit for-the show on April 28th and 29th, a table 30ft by 3ft 6in, with gangway both 'sides being required for same. - -- ■ ■ It : was resolved to ask judges to act as follows : — Messrs G. A. Harkness and A. Day for plants and cut blooms to Class 59 of section 2^ Mr ■ S. F. Bolt on. for fruit and veget-' ables ; Mr P. M. Webster, for sundries;'and the committee of ladies who have acted on previous occasions for the classes for decorations, Nos. 60 to 68, inclusive, of section- 2. Mr B. Tasker offered a special prize of 10s 6d for the, best collection of cbsmeas ; Mrs Merrick, two trophies as first and second prizes for the best three chrysanthemums, any variety or colour, open to town residents on-, ly ; Mr A. W. Shallcrass' special prize of 10s 6d was^allotted for the most points in the vegetables classes ; Mr H. A. Fox's (Wellington) special of a guinea, was allotted for the most points in the fruit classes; Mr A. E. Tasker offered a prize of a sack of artificial manure for the best chrysanthemum bloom shown by an amateur; and the society will, award a certificate for the champion chrysanthemum bloom, i.e., the' best bloom in tho show, any .class. A class was added for the best collection of vegetable " marrows and pumpkins, and it was decided to award the National Chrysanthemum Society's certificates for the six Japanese" chrysanthemums class, open and amateur respectvely. A hearty- vote of thanks was accorded the donors of special prizes. E; Tasker and the secretary to arrange. : t A general discussion followed as to the best means of increasing interest in the society, and it was decided that a general meeting of members be held on the second Tuesday, in May.-to' consider horticultural matters generally. At this meeting there .will probably be an exhibition of flowers then in bloom, and. the question of holding monthly meetings of members will be, grouglit up in order to test the feeling of members thereon.
