TENTATIVE PROPOSAL TO MR FISHER. NO DEOISION~REACHED. Received April 1, 0.45 a.m. . Melbourne, Maroh 31. A conference took place to-day by telephone between the. Governments of New South Wales "and Victoria with regard to their offer to the Prime ; Minister to bear their share pn:a per capita basis, of the cost of presenting a Dreadnought. Mr Murray subsequently stated that th-3 position was a somewhat difficult one, and Cabinet would decide -at its meeting to-morrow /what - further steps should be taken. No formal -reply;- -bas - -been" - received ftom the Prime 1 Minister; nor have the other: ' States announced their ■ attitude. He understood that they .were disinclined to contribute. He would have a further conference with New South Wales to-morrow.
