NELSON EDUCATION BOARD.

<» MONTHLY MEETING, The monthly meeting of the Nelson Education Board was commenced yesterday. Present : Messrs A. T. Maginnity (Chairman), Shepherd, —Lock, 'Munson, Fair,. Baigent, Franklyn, Beuke, and Smith. The Chairman brought up the. question of keeping stock books at different schools. It was resolved that stock books.be kept at each school, the Secretary and Inspectors to draft a suitable school for the purpose. Messrs Munson and Fair reported on -the necessity of having the Birchfield school • ground cleared, and £5 was authorised for the work. . . The following tenders were received for leasing school site at Westport: ray £65, Colvin and Macmahon £35, Part section 1067: Dickson and Mur--J. H. Carew £20, R. Tregurtha £16, Gibbard and Davis £51, Scofetock and O'Gorman £28 ; Resenbefg £"40, McCarthy £30, Maxwell and\Mann £25. Part section 1071: "J. H. Carew £24, ■W. T. Slee £32, W. Rosenberg £50, Maxwell and Mann £35. The Premier wired asking the Board to decline to accept tenders for the corner^ sections, Palmerston and Wakefield streets,. as it would probably be necessary for the Government to resume^ the land shortly as it turned out the Courthouse was erected.partly on this land. It was resolved to' decline the tenders, as requested, the deposits to be returned, and that steps be taken to ascertain if the Courthouse encroaches on the section. It was resolved that tenders for section -1067 stand over until to-day. y'— Two tenders fsvere received for the erection of laboratory at Motueka that of Stillwell and Co, £99 18s Bd, being accepted. There was one other tender, F. J. Fawcett, £102 10s. ' The following tenders were received for drainage connections for the town schools: H.McArtney £424, T.R.J. Grimmett £531, H. J. Flatt £504, F.A. Carlisle arid Co £416 13s, W. H. Grimmett £499 16s 6d, Nelson Tinware Coy £485 10s. Consideration of tenders was left over until to-day. The Board grantedr£l4 towards the cost of the svork, and referred the tenders to the Committee. Tenders for additions, etc., Brooklyn school, were received from J. Mci\ab, £115, and Stillwell and Co., £96 10s Bd. -The latter' s tender was accepted". ; Two tenders were received for painting at Three Channel Flat, S. Jenkins, £8 10s (accepted) and G. Roche ■£12.; , •., ■ ' -v Applications were dealt with as follows : — £l3 17s 6d was authorised for expenditure for repairs to Inangahua Landing school; £6 was granted for work at Birchfield school ground; £3 was granted Central Buller Committee for clearing ground; Denniston, shelter sheds, tenders to be invited for painting residence, and £5 granted fpr fencing; Granity Committee to be authorised to have work done ; Kararnea, painting residence, tenders to be invited, and £3 granted for repairs; Brighton,, blinds 255, granted; Nelson Committee, examination of buildings, held over until next meeting, tenders to.be invited for repairing and painting Boys'' Central school, and- that Mr Thompson report on the other items named; Orinoco, wire netting fence, referred to secretary; Itocky River water supply, £2 10s granted; Progress, clearing arid fencing, held over ; WaimangarOa, improvements to residence, £4 granted ; Long Plain, tank, etc., Mr Baigent to report.. ■" Applications for teacherships were dealt with as follows :— lnangahua Landing, Miss A. Nalder's name to bejsubnutted to the Committee ; Ranzau, sole teacher, £130 and residence, ten applications, names of Misses' C. Davies, E. Bryan, and B. Baigent be forwarded to the Committee in thai ordor ; Upper Stanley Brook, £36 (free board and lodgings), three applications, resolved to advertise again : lleefton, secondary assistant, £130, three applications, the names of Misses' McLeod and Ironside forwarded ir, that order; Motueka District High School, pupil teacher, Miss C. Boundy appointed ; 88vValley ; £36 and free board and- lodgings, Miss Neumanr appointed ; Reefton, first, assistant, £120, three applications, fresh applications >to- be invited; Puponga, sole teacher, £90, and £10 house allowance, Miss Tosswill appointed ; Pakawau, sole - teacher, Miss D.
