THE DEATH OF A BANK CLERK.

AVellington, March 29. At tho inquest on James Fleming, who was lost from the steamer Maori in AVellington harbour yesterday, the evidence ishowed that deceased was a single man, aged 34. He a was em-, ployed as. a clerk by the Bank of New Zoaland, and he was under transfer: to Wellington, where he should have reported himself on March 20th, but he had not done so. It was stated that deceased was under the influence of liquor when he joined the : s^s; Maori at Lyttelton. -A' draft and two bank' slips were found on deceased,; * which should not have' been in- his possession unless they were duplicates. Dr McArthur, S.M., found the deceased came to his death through drowning by falling from the s.s. .. Maori, and that everything possible . had been done to rescue him. -
