A London exchange states : — Several points in connection . with Old-Age. Pensions have attracted g considerable attention since the official return of , the pensions was published the other day. One is that' the number of pensioners exceeds the estimate by 100,---000. Another is that fewer pensioners are beingpaid in Poplar and Stepney than in Hampstead. Paddingtpn and Marylebone. It shows that in these very poor districts men. and women are driven to Poor-law relief before they are seventy. In the vast majority of cases they have to go into "the house" before that time simply because the work to be obtained in the neighbourhood is only to be done by men in of their full strength.
