CONGRATULATIONS TO LIEUTENANT SHACKLETON.

Christchurch, March 28. The following message was received b.\ Lieutenant Shackleton to-day: — "Shackleton, Commander Nimrod, Christchurch: Enthusiastic congratulations from the International Poiar Commission.— Cagni, Nordenskjold, Lccointe, at Brussels." Cagni was the captain of the Polar Star, the Duke of Abruzzio's ship. He made the furthest north record before beino- beaten by a few miles by Peary: NordensKjold is a well-known Swedish explorer on the side of the Antarctic immediately below South America. Lecpinte was one of the members of the Belgian Antarctic expedition, and is lion, secretary of the International l'olar Commission.
