THE SYDNEY APPEAL.
Sydney, March 27. The- Lord Mayors appeal fora Dreadnought fund- says:— -The facfc stands but that the Empire is already weighed down with the cost of., defence and maintenance, and that it must face -a largely increased expenditure to maintain the present-impreg-nable position. Her sons must assist. New Zealand has nobly led : the way." -Mr Wade, State Premier, has wired tc other State Premiers. He considers that the Dreadnought scheme is inappropriate, and suggests. instead that the-States should combine to inciease the naval subsidy to £500,000.
