RIFLE SHOOTING.

NELSON RIFLES. On -Wednesday last a competition was fired for Messrs Wilkins and ! Field's trophy, when Corp. Carter secured a leg in. Th_e conditions were ,10 shots at 200 yafrds, and. some of th-3 scores were very^ creditable. The principal scores were-'asi- follows : — '■ Corpl. Carter .iX-' 1 4& — : 48 Sergt. Peart ... 30 10 40 On Saturday afternoon the seventh match was _ fired for the Company's championship shield, and Messrs Wilkins and Field's trophy, the conditions being ten shots each at 200 and 600 yards. A puffy south-west wind was blowing throughout, varying from 4deg to 9deg -lef o at 600 yards. The best score was put up . by Sergeant Frarik, which included the possible (50) at 200 yards. The following were -the scores for the shield : —

The 600 yards scoro with handicaps added count for the trophy. Sergt. Frank being highest, with 40, secures tbti ■ trophy, which becomes hi? own property. The final match for. the shield takes place next Saturday. wrlh 1 0 shots at 200 and 500 yards.
