TIMBER COMMISSION.

Invercargill, March 25. The Timber Commission opened'its sittings at Invercargill -'■ to-day, but transacted only formal business, as three North Island members are absent on account of the steamer not connecting with the first train south on Wednesday. The Commission wiH visit the Riyerton. district on Friday, and inspect the bush there, and sawmilling operations, and, call evidence at Invercargill on Saturday.
