A MARATHON RACE.

Ashburton, March 25. The New Zealand Marathon ■ race from Rakaia to Ashburton domain, a distance of 18 miles and 154 yards, run under the; auspices -of the AshVurton Amateur Cycling and Athletic Club, was decided here to-day, rin a very trying .heat. • , Twenty-two nominated arid eighteen .started, "including the 'best known Itmg. distance men of the Dominion. - -The placed men were, practically leadings all;;the way,:. and the first two finished' 'strongly. ..The result was:.
