Much enthusiasm has been displayed by hockey players at theanmial meetings of the various clubs held during , the past fortnight, and the season promises to be a highly successfulone. j ThoJMaitai Club which suspended operations last season owing to the Saturday half holiday ,has been reformed with a strong membership, and will put a formidable team in for the championship. This cluV opened the season on Wednesday afternoon when there was a good turn out of players, enough, , with the assistance of one or two playJ ers from other clubs to form two full sides. A good practice of two half hour spells was indulged in. With the * increasing number of players _ the probabilities are that there will be a junior hockey championship this season. Then the' Hockey Association will bo faced wi£h the problem, of grounds. At present the Botanical Reserve is the only public ground available, and this will not be sufficient to provide accommodation for all the players this season. The Auckland representatives are to tour the Dominion this year, and it is to be hoped that Nelson will be included in the itinerary.
