A COMMONWEALTH PROTEST.
Melbourne, March 25. The Minister, of External Affairs is surprised that Lieut. Shackleton sent him no report of his explorations, seeing that the Commonwealth Government subscribed £5000. The Minister holds that whatever Lieut. Shackleton's contracts with the newspapers n-ay be, he must recognise some obli* gations to the Commonwealth.
