Nelson has been selected to be honoured with a visit of this renowned organisation, the limited time at the disposal Of the directors,, Messrs J. and N. Tait, compelling tbem to reluctantly pass many important provincial centres. The date fixed is Saturday next, 27th inst., at the Theatre Royal. Tlie Royal Welsh Male Choir, which has - been appearing throughout Australasia and New Zealand towns, en route, to nightly scenes of wildest enthusiasm, was formed 23" years ago at Treorehy, under the title "Treorehy Male Choir." its members being young men, chiefly miners. 'It had a long series of remarkable triumphs at the /various Eistedfodds in Wales, and in 1895 the late Sir Joseph Darnby, . the greatest , authority on singing in the world, declared its performance at the Llanelly National Eistedfodd to be the finest he had ever heard. The choir sang by command before Queen Victoria at Windsor Castle, and her late Majesty exclaimed, "What beautiful voiges they have, and how delicately they are trained." They appeared before Royalty on four subsequent occasions, gave successful concerts at the Crystal Palace and several other great Lon- : don halls, at the Lord Mayor's ban- ' quet in Manchester, and in connection with other important functions. Lord Alverstone (Lord Chief Justice of England) said the hchoir's singing was the best'he had ever heard, and Sir Walter Parratt (organistto the King) declared he had never heard the National Anthem sung with such feeling as by its members on their visit to Windsor, the sußgestion of Mr Choa-fce (then United States Ambassador in London), the choir toured America, creating a great sensation in musical circles. The Sydney "Telegraph" said : "Such admiral choral and part singing readily explained the nigh posi-. tion which this choir has won for "itself. The perfect balance of tone, the gradations of light, and shade, the enunciation, the- electricah attack, and the resonant full harmonies were all distinguished features." Prices are fixed at 5s reserved, 3s and 2s. The box plan opens at Jackson's, stationer, at ten o'clock o.n Wednesday morning. Country . residents are urged to book by post.
