IMPORTANT ARREST.

• Auckland, March 17. A smart arrest was effected by Detectives Hollis and Scott- at Freeman's Bay shortly before midnight, resulting in the recovery of a large quantity of stolen jewellery, and the discovery of a large collection of housebreaking implements. The subject of the arrest was a young man. named Franljc Maher. The^-detectives found upon his person a flange ■iguaniSty of jo.wellerj' alleged to connect him 'with sevoral largo burglaries in the -city.. A search of the. man's dwelling" resulted in finding a largo. quantity of housebreaking tools, . including ... . sketetonr keys, fil6s, batteries, wires, revolvers, a flaslilignt, .and furtlier jewellery valued at £60. The latter was recovered from a chimney. ■ *
