There occurred on January 23, at the ago of 58, the death of Mr Thos. Pickering, who was one of the best known "and highly esteemed captains in the Allan Line, -which he joined in 1881. The deceased possessed the distinction of having "captained every Allan Liner sailing between Glasgow a.nd Canada.
;0n the island of Laysan in the Hawaiian group, are frequently seen the curious antics of the Laysan albatross which sometimes performs in. pairs, a kind of dance. "The birds approach each other, nodding and making profound bows, cross their bills, rise on their toes, put out their breasts, and filially part with "more nodding and bowing, only to come together again and repeat the performance.
