Oincial figures show that the battleship Vanguard cost £1,624,878, or at the rate of £84 per ton as compared with the Dreadnought's cost at £100 King Edward the Seventh at £89! lhe latest French battleship is costing £114, German £101, and United States battleship £100 per ton. The House of Commons Navy Committee, including Liberal Imperialists and Conservatives, resolved that seven Dreadnoughts were necessary for the coming year, another to be added if tound necessary, and that the postponement of the building of four ships 7mn,^l ace an undue strain on the 11)10-1911 programme. The Reduction of Armaments Committee resolved that any increase in the navy estimates was inexpedient.
