The Women's Christian Temperance Union meetings will be resumed, after the summer vacation, this afternoon, in St.' John's schoolroom. The, Nelson Citizens' Band will give a grand concert to-morrow evening in the Botanical Reserve, when a well selected programme will be rendered. There will be one special item, a grand selection, "Beauties of Ireland," in which Bandsman Trengrove -will lender a cornet solo, "The Last Rose of Summer." -Mr I<\ N. Jones, jnr., will also be in attendance with his magnophone and will supply some very funny items. A collection will be ■taken in aid of the Band's contest fund. A Dunedin telegram states that for attempting to obtain £5 by means of altering a totalisator ticket figures to make them serve for a later race (a. common practice at Wingatui) Charles John Mcintosh .(a storekeeper of Alexandra) was fined £5. His previous good character saved him from gaol. Cyclists who have been in the habit of riding at nights without lights should take warning, and see that their machines aie provided with propel* lamps.
