THE UNEMPLOYMENT ACT.
MB BURNS CRITICISED
(Received March 3, 11.30 p.m.) London, March 3. A Nationalist motion condemning the Government for using a statute of Edward 111. for the conviction of Mr Farrell was defeated by 142 votes to 18 The Labour members sharply attacked Mr John Burns' administration of the Unemployment- Act, alleging that it was ungenerous. Mr Pickersgill did not think the women workers of London were fairly dealt with as compared to meni^ Mr Burns justified his action in not sanctioning a farm colony for women. It would be useless to transfer charwomen at a cost oi £200 apiece _to teach them market gardening. He had made grants and sanctioned loans wherever he was satisfied they
were necessary.
