A BIG HOTEL DESTROYED BY

_ Auckland, March 1. I he. hotel at Takapuna was completely destroyed by fire this after--noon. The building, which was built of wood, contained .some , fifty rooms. It was owned by. the. "Campbell, Ehrehfned and Gar, the licensee (who had been in possession only three weeks) bemg_Mr F. F.. Lipscoumbe. The .stock and, furniture were insured for £1000 in the United Company, but the loss is estimated at least at £1300 additional. The building was insured for. £2000 in the New Zealand office. It is supposed the fire "was due to a spark fr,om a defective chimney. There were no boarders at the hotel at the time of the fire. .
