t^JwiTKD Pbess Association.] Wellington Feb.2B. The .memh'ers of the Methodist Conference were formally welcomed by the Mayor (Hon. T. W. Hislop) in the Council Chamber at noon yesterday. His Worship referred to the Wesleyan Church as one of the most progressive in modern times. He recalled the history of the Church, and noted its missionary enterprise. ■; • The Eresident of the Conference: (Rev! Thos. Fee) responded. • The for-: ces, he said 3 that made for righteousness made also for adequate citizenship. They were trying to make' God's own country a tetter country, with a higher class of people even -than at present. . : Mr J. A. Flesher, a memher of the Christchurch City Council, replied on behalf of the, lay members of -the Conference. Ho referred to the progress of Wellington as an example to the other cities of the Dominion. It had better opportunities than > other places. He envied ; the well payed streets, and splendid harbour facilities. The speaker paid a high compliment to the Mayor for his . past '• work"', as a 1 member of the Cabinet, and his present work as the Mayor.
