An eleven year old child named Katie Webber has had a remarkable adventure at Carnmarth, Cornwall. She left her home one evening, and as she did not return her mother thought she was staying a,t her aunt's house for the;night. Next morning a neighbour went to draw water at a well which is forty feet deep, but found he could not raise the bucket. He is deaf and did not hear any cries, but he told the girl's eldest brother that something was wrong with the well. When the brother reached the spot he heard the child crying for help.. He was lowered into the well, and fasten- - edthe rope' round the girl, who was then drawn up and taken home. Although the girl had been standing' in cold water for fifteen hours, she was little the worse for her experience, except that her foot was hurt. She cannot remember what happened to her after she left home or how she got into the well.
