AN INDICTMENT OF "KHAKI. . It is not surprising to hear (says the London "Truth") that khaki uniform is by no means approved of in the Territorial, army. There have been some letters: on -the' subject in bhe ■""Army'; and Navy Gazette," and "Terriers'.' Havevalso 1 confided to mo bheir feelings on this point. It seems to ■ me. quite irrational to adopt this solour for a home defence army._ The material of Indian khaki was suitable ror wear. in. a tropical. climate ; the :ojour was suitable as being inconspicuous in the Indian landscape. The atter merit was also useful in South Africa/ In England, on the other land, -where the prevailing tone of the andscape is green, the colour of khaci is not any point in its favour. It s extremely ngly, "and it has the pecial. disadvantage, which seems_ to le keenly appreciated in the " Territoial force, that it corresponds as tearly as possible to .the .colour adoped f or the garb of convicts. The old Volunteers hrd uniforms which were uitable from the point of view of betig inconspicnbus-in colour, and there s .no conceivable reason why one or ith em of thei'n should not have been idopted for tho Territorial Force. 1 hould think the best colour of all i-ould be a dull: shade of green, apiroximating to grey. ■■-.•• - -■ " .
