In the afternoon I paid a visit to Fern Flat, some five miles below Murchison ana situated on the opposite bank of, the Buller river which 's crossed on the punt. There is an' air of quiet rural . homluiess about Fern' Flat, and -it seems to be'aiplace that has. been settled for many : years.
