The necessity for teaching .German was one of the subjects discussed at the meeting' of the Conference at the Merchant Taylors' School recently. Mr Vaughan, of Giggleswick, proposed a resolution regrettine that the teaching of German was declining at the secondary schools, and Canon liyttelton, the headmaster of Eton, opposed the resolution, which ' was passed. The conference also discussed the general auestion of .the teaching of' foreign languages, and decided that the average boy ought not to be required to study more than two languages besides English before he reached the age of 13. ■ ;■-. ... _.. .-■■"•,.- , ■ _
