Captain Edwin, Government Meteorologist, is amongst the civil servants to be retired on account of the age limit. He has been 33. years in the Government service. °' Mr-. Barry Coney, well known in Nelson, has lately passed the L.R.A.M examination' in singing. He-recent-ly sang with great success for the Purley Choral Union, receiving treble encores for his singing of the prologue to "I • Pagliacci, and the bass solo in the "May Queen." Mr Scott j M.P. for Tuapeka (says a Press Association message), was banquetted at Roxborough last night, when practically all the Opposition members in Otago were present. A Press 1 Association message states that the Prime Minister visited Hamilton yesterday and inspected theßuakura State Farm. This forenoon he will present a flag to /the Auckland schools, and in. the afternoon will, attend the Oddfellows'; picnic at Motutapu. He leaves Auckland for Wellington on Sunday; night, and will transact business there on Tuesday morning. 1 Bishop Julius, of Christchurch, has accepted the invitation of Bishop Mercer to visit Tasmania at Synod time (towards the end of April) and preach at the re-opening of the Cathedral chancel, Hobart, as well as speak at the diocesan meeting. . Mr Yung-liang Hwang, the newlyappointed Chinese Consul in New Zealand, Mrs and Miss Yung-liang Hwang and Mr T. S. Shah, secretary to the Consulate, have arrived at Wellington . Mr Yung-liang Hwang, who is a native of Auhui province/ in the Yangtsze Valley, is a graduate of the Baker University, Kansas, and of Columbia University. New York. He is,a fluent English speaker, as are also his wife and daughter. . Mr F. P."Worley (who recently was awarded a Fellowship for Chemical Research by the University of London) has now received intimation of his election as a Fellow of the Chemical Society. He'is a son of Mr Worley, . one of the masters of the Boys' Central School. ■ . ■ Miss Fanny Hodgkins, daughter of Mrs Hodgkins, Wellington, and sister of Mrs Field, -has been successful in carrying off a much coveted prize m Paris. An American Club in Pans, "The Students' Hostel," is endowed by a rich American lady, Mrs Hofi. The prize, which/ amounts to £^0,---was awarded to Miss Hodgkins for a watercolour of a mother and child, entitled "Le Bonheur."
