SYMPATHY FROM THE PREMIER.

Rput, -^who , lost their brother-in-law; Mr,Hi;Whar-<fcon-Shaw in the. wreck of the^Penguin \ have received the following telegram \ from the Premier: "At the request of his Excellency the Governor 1 gavo publicity the morning, after the unf or r tunate wreck of the Penguin to his Excellency's deep sorrow for the sufferers "by the' sad disaster. I also gave, similar. expression to my heartfelt sympathy with all who so unexpectedly were the victims of the terrible, wreck. , 'I now desire to convey to you my sincere regret • and deep L sorrow at the sad loss you have sus-. , tairied.' Orie ( feels so helpless to do j anything to lighten your burden in this unusually heavy hour of .trial, and I can only tender my heartfelt sympathy to 'you and" yours in your irreparable loss and in the grief you ' have to bear. \ I do not know whether I can be of any service to you, but if . there is anything in my power that is possible for mo to do, it will be most gladly 'done.—^J. G. Ward." Messrs Rout -replied thanking the Premier for his kind telegram of sympathy and offer of help, adding, that they feared ' nothing' more could be done; -..'■■'"■-,
