' „ NOTES^ on the New Millinery, / .— — Since last season there has been no marked change in style ; except as regards size and trimming, or rather lack of trimming as the hats this season seem to bear as little in the way of extras as possible. Extremely large brims and fairly large flat crowns are still the vogue. These are worn without the 'bandeau, quite flat on the hair and present a very simple and charming effect. Black hats trimmed, with rather light -wreaths of coloured and white roses and camelias are very muqh in evidence. Large toques in tagol or other soft straws have taken the place' of 'sniall hats. These are all very smartly trimmed with wonderfully shaded wings, quills and ostrich plumes, Some have beautful floral brims ; whiclfare extremely becoming to either' young or old. One of the novel features of the season is the fur trimmed toque or hat.- Many ladies complain that the all fur hat or toque is far top heavy for the New Zealand climate, | but as the furs are used this season with other lighter trimmings, they wijl be found delightful to wear. A white mock Ermine or pointed fox toque or small hat with a large feather wing or even bunches of violets, camelias, or other small flowers is very effective and can be worn by anyone. Tinsel .crowns with swathed brims in either^ silk/or velvet", is a very new and striking feature among the autumn modes. ~ . " With respect to colours,.'mole: and elephant are.the predominating shades but vieux blue and all shades of > green are also fashionable. ' - KIRKCALOIE & STAINS, LIMITED, ' -. WELLINGTON,
