The steamer Pitkaki, whioh arrived from Lyttelton this' morning^ had a mishap- to her. machinery at 2 a.m. yesterday, when two low-pres-sure slide valve spindles broke. By 2.30 p.m; temporary repairs enabled the voyage ! to be resumed.- The steamer Mararoa passsd her in the morning'but did not see her distress signals. When the s.s.
