DEPUTATION TO THE MINISTER.

A deputation of residents, headed by Mr N. L." Buchanan waited upon the Hon R. McKenzie" in reference- to local requirements. He asked the Minister to bring under the notico of the Minister^ of Marine the necessity -for tlie proper beaconing of Westhaven; the 'extension of the Taitapu boundary track to Kaituna, which would enable residents "to get to Collingwood and buck in one day, instead of two or three as at present. A road was also required to the coast. Mr Buchanan mentioned that -tlie Taitapu estates were about to cut up 10,000 . iw-res of land for settlement. and\were making a properly . graded road through it, which would form a link in the road: required to the south. . Other members of the deputation having spoken the Minister said he recognised that some .better means .of communication by road was required and as there was:, now a, considerable nop'ulatiori something 1 should be done. He : would have taken an early opportunity of having a trial survey mado for a track across from Collingwood. via Kaituna. In regard to the Karaka road, to the coast, he thought, the settlers could heln themselves in regard to that. He suggested that they should raise a loan for, the- -work, and ogrhaps the Government miglib help Them.. The question of beaconing Westhaven would be brought wider the notice of the Minister of Marine. The deputation then thanked the Minister; and withdrew.
