ANNUAL RACE MEETING.

The acceptances for the Nelson Trotting Club's races to t be held at Richmond Park on Saturday, next are highi ly satisfactory, and constitute a record for the club. /There were comparatively few defections from the-list of horses nominated, and several who failed to accept. -have been put out of 1 commission on account- of injuries, so that the handieapper, Mr W. Coleman, is to be heartUy congratulated upon the, results of his "efforts. ■: Over sixty horses will be engaged at the meeting, and the number of entries 1 for the various races are as follows: Pioneer Handicap 21; Waimea Handicap 13; Ladies' Bracelet 10; Nelson Trotting Club Handicap 11 ; Brightwater Handicap 15; Richmond Handicap 13 ; ■ District Handicap 15. The Mayor :(Mr J. Piper) following the usual custom, has invited citizens to observe a half, holiday from 'noon instead of one o'clock, and the President of the Retailers' Association has been asked to place the- matter of closing at noon before members. The railway manager (Mr Thomas Edwards) has; placed a special train on for the convenience of townspeople, which will arrive at ' Richmond "in time for the first race.-- "■ With fine weather and large fields the face's should attract a large, attendance of the public. Only one bookmaker has applied ' for permission to bet, and the totalisator, as usual, will be in the capable hands of Mr F. N. Jones.
