TAPAWERA V. OLD BOYS.

The above game was played -on No. 1 wicket 'at the Park; on Saturday, and resulted in" a win for the country team, after .what Vas probably one of -"the most exciting matches- ever played- on the ground. Thomas won the toss from Sandel, and sent the Old Boys in. on a splendid wicket at 9.45. As the, latter were-shorthand-ed the batsmen' stonewalled as 1 was .their gamei and. the first wicket fell 'after 35 minutes with the score at 19. With nearly the last man in Cliisholm was hurriedly brought from town and with McCabe, the last man just hung out till two minutes to lunch time, when McCabe was bowled, but by taking the two minutes interval the team . was enabled to got two more batsmen down after lunch. The innings reached 98, Qhisholm .batting splendidly for 30, not ' out. The other chief contributors were Richmond and McCabe 10, and Neaie Dickson and Biggar 9. W. R. Fowler secured the splendid average of 7 for 43. ■ ' ' • -. ■■• ' ■' Tapawera made a bad start and had 5 down for 13, Moyeis and Neale both getting close to the hat trick. Kinzett ancT Biggß (2) put on a few but the innings, closed for 62, Moyes getting 'the fine figures of 6 for' 24. With visions of a three point win Old Boys commenced making things lively but started 'badly, Richmond getting l.b.w. to a full pitch, and Moyes and Wright going quickly. Neale and Dickson hit hard, but the latter . was fun out and Neale was stumped, tile ball being -obviously .taken in front. Dickson got two fourers and Neale a six and two fourers." . Sandel declared at 42, leaving Ttpawera 75 to win in a bit over an hour., .As they were evidently after runs the excitement rose as the runs came and the wickets fell quickly. To increase the excitement a sixer was run through the ball being lost in the grass not far from the pitch, when only a few runs were wanted. When the clock said time the umpires could not agree _so one more over was decided upon, with two to , win. Off the second brill Neale caught Biggs low down in the slips and the next, man ran in without Dads, and a very short run was sriea£ed, with one ball to go one run was still required, and. the ball striking the batsman's leg and bouncing two or three feet away the two men streaked up the pitch, but the ball got there just about the same time, and there was a confident appeal for run out. Not out meant three points to Tapawera, out meant two, to Old Boys, but in keeping with their usual luck the decision went against the town team. The game was played in splendid spirit arid was as' well as being exciting one of the best games 'the teams- have had. The ■full scores are as follows :— OLD BOYS.— lst innings.
