Rid'dell) gave judgment to-day in the case against the publisher of ' ' Truth, '.' who was charged "with _sel!idg a newspaper containing advertisements whereby it was made to appear tbat certain persons named were willing to make bets on results of certain horse races .in New Zealand. The Magistrate said tbe words of the advertisement neea not.' be direct so long as, the meaning was clear. The defendant was convicted, • .and was fined £5, with £6 103 costs. .
