A DISPUTED ELECTION.

COUNTY COUNCILLOR UNSEATED. [United Peess Association.] Dargaville, Dec. 9. An electoral petition was heard before Mr E. W. Dyer, S.M., to day against the election ol Councillor Field, for tho Maungarau Riding cf HobsoD County. The grounds of the petition were thai the roll was improperly made ; persons were disfranchised ; and a deputy left hii booth unguarded several times. Mr R. J. Coates represented Edwin Harding and nine other petitioners, and Mr B. T. b'ield opposed the petition personally. Mr Heyes, County solicitor, watched the proceedings. The evidence showed that the County Clerk omitted to file the 1907-8 roll, and added 13 namea and deleted two. Tne roll used -was not passed by tbe Magistrate. - There were seven other witnesses. The Magistrate upset the eleotion, granting costs, £12 14s, against Mr b'ield and the Returning Officer.
