At the dinner at the Hotel Cecil in celebration of tbe establishment of the|Lpndon. oranch of the Australian Mutual Provident Society, lord Lamington, ex-Gove>rnor of Queensland,and Sir Felix Scehuster,Governor oi? the Union of london and Smith's ; Bank, and representatives of leading-; insurance societies were present. Sir Gilbert Parker, M.P., in proposing the Society, remarked tbat its wonderful methods assuredly appeal to the conservative minds of the British public. Mr >A. W. Meeks, of Sydney, who presided, in responding to the toast of the Sooiety, said that the London branch was another lint between the Commonwealth ana ' tbe Motherland,, which he hoped would help tOrtnaue the wealth and progress of Australasia more widely known.
