NELSON HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

A meeting of the combined committees of tho. Nelson Horticultural Society was held last evening, Mr W. Heaps, President, in the chair. It was res.olved that the method of judging table decorations and decorative events pursued at the recent show should be followed in future. It was remarked that this method of judging had given more general satisfaction than any other. • It was resolved that Mr Solf's trophy for eighteen ■, cut , flowers be competed for at the sweet pea show, only those who entered in that particular section at the recent show to be allowed to -compete, entrance being free. There were twents'-one entrants, all but one of whom were disqualified for not complying with the "conditions of the schedule. The lady who was allotted the Society's .prize was quite agreeable to this course. It was resolved to have afternoon tea at the sweet pea show, the mat? ter being left in -the hands of the Ladies' Committee.

It was decided that the conditions attached to the President's .'special prizq be adhered 'to, and that the prize be competed for at the sweet pea show. •

A prize of 10s was awarded to Mr J. C. Bolfcon for his exhibit of a palm, which the judges commended as the best pot plant in the show. It was resolved to hold the sweet pea and carnation show on Thursday and Friday, 17th and 18th December. The President,. '. Secretary, and Mesrs Merrick and Moller were appointed a sub-committee to arrange f6r a hall.

Tho schedule for" the sweet pea and carnation show was then drawn up. The sweet pea class is headed by Mr S. F. Bolton's challenge trophy, and the carnation* class -by Miss Marsden's challenge trophy, followed . by special prizes of plants offered respectively .by Messrs Cousins (Dunedin) and C. B. Izard (Stoke). It was resolved that the sweet peas could be shown without foliage, but if foliage is preferred, it must be that of tho sweet pea. It was resolved to procure the services of Mr H. A. Fox, of Wellington, as judge, if possible. It was resolved' that entries close on tho Monday previous to the show at six o'clock.

It was resolved that in the table decorations sweet peas and carnations only be allowed.
