SPRING SHOW.

.The Spring Show of the Motuefca Horticultural Society was held.on. Monday, and waa a pronouncod- success. Notwithstanding the late frosts aud drying wiods the .exhibits of flowors ">ore numerous and shown in good condition. In pot plants flowering geraniums far excelled the exhibits of previous seasons. Foliage begonias were good, and a good aspedigtra scored in its class. Out flowers were exceptionally good. Fair exhibits of roses were shown, alto ugh the season tias be=n somewhat trying for the '"q.uaen of the garden." Pansies •syere.the best yet shown, tome of the blooms being exceedingly large land well shaped, althogh lacking tb'at distinctive feature : of the show pansy, ..viz. distinct and; regular marking, colours not intermingling one with the other. The chief feature in the cut flowers was the larga exhibition of sweet peas, showing that this favourite and fasbionable flower has a strong hold on the public fancy. It wa3 gratifying that we were honoured by Nelsou exhibitors in tuis class, and also that outsiders wbo took tbe trouble to send out flowers aucb along way were rewarded by the judges. Autirhennums, foxgloves and sweet William were in abundance and mada a good display. Hand and bridal bouquets were faw but well made. Native exhibits of wreaths, baskets and. bouquets of flowers were exceptionally good, and their appearance well rewarded the trouble the exhibitors had takeo. Fruit,: in. the way of cherries, strawberries and some fine last season's apples, was a good class, although, the time of year is against a large' display in this section. - v ..JVegßtajblea. were better than usual, being the leading: feature^ as. were also some fine broad beans. ) The Society instituted a new departure in providing v separate class for sahool children, and Whakarewa and Riwaka and Lower Moutere Schools divided the honorß. Spooial mention might be made of the exhibition of cut flowers. by the Ri waba Sobool, the exhibit being well staged in separate vases. "The Motueka Brass band played during the evsning, the music being much appreciated. There was a fair attendance of" the publio despite several counter attractions and the financial result will be satisfactory.
