NELSON EDUCATION BOARD.

SECOND DAY.

..;' The- Nelson Education Board's monthly . meeting was continued' ; : yesterday. ' Present Messrs .Maginnity (Chairman), F. W. Smith, Beuke; Franklyn, T. Baigent, Fair, Muhson, and Shepherd. The examination reports of tho Nelson Schools and certain Waimea schools were laid before . the Board by the Inspectors and received. The report of tho Director of tha Technical School (Mr A. A. Hintz), was read "and adopted. The suggested- curriculum and tho . arrange-ments-made;; regarding the ,- summer school to be held at Westport next month were approved. 'At the request of the Inspectors the Board; held over 'the report on the question: of supplying free school books to the preparatory classes. A report was laid on tho table showing the vacancies to be filled under the provisions of .the new' Educa-" -tion Act. rßesolved that" the vacancies be ;advertisedi

; A deputation of two- Kiwi residents (Messrs Anglesea and Holmes) waited on; the' Board with reference to a matter of the of an organ which tthe ; residents desired t.o be placed; in -the local school. It was suggested to the deputation that some amicable /arrangement should, be arrived at with the School Committee.

The following appointments were made:— Miss ;F. S. Jofdiin, assistant Neiidorf ; Mr ■H. E. Stanton, head master W a imangaroa; Mr F. Jordan sole teacher, East Takaka; Miss K. Z. Condell, sole teacher, Rocky River ; Miss H. G. Ederi was ag&'n recommended to the Charleston Committee for appointment. Tho resignation of Mr F. Neavo, headmaster o£ the Wostport District High School, was accepted, and Miss Ilobb was asked to reconsider her,' resignation of the Whangarae teachofship. The Board authorised an extra expenditure of £15 on account of tho Technical School contract at Westport on the recommendation of the architect.

Mr Smith handed in tho following notice of motion:- That the February meetings of the Board be held at Reefton and Westport. Mr Lock's resolution regarding iiio abolition- o£ Board meetings on theWe stCoast was not proceeded with, as there had been no < resolution on i the Board's^minutes regarding s'uch^ meetings.
