Trathen's.* On the 19th November instant, in the Supreme Court in Chambers, at Wellington, on the application of Mr Harley, his Honour Judge Chapman granted probate of the will of Alfred Roland Smart to Clara Smart, tho sole executrix named in the will. The photographic studio and residence of Mr W. 'Cameron, at Winton, have been destroyed by fire. The insurance on the building is £325 in the Commercial Union office, on furniture and stock £300 in the Alliance. The loss is estimated at- £300 above the insurance. Harvey alleges that another man, named James Jackson, a wharf labourer, with whom he had been drinking, went to his house, and without provocation attacked him with a wool hook;' The police arrested Jackson, whd was charged at the Court with assault and causing bodily harm. Harvey was not in a condition to appear, and the; case was remanded till November 28th. At "Ashburton, Charles Nolan has been convicted and fined £10 and costs for selling a bottle of whisky. The evidence'' showed .that the .defendant: gave the purchaser whisky worth 8s in exchange for a watch valued at 30b.
