Mr A. J. Redgrave, chief clerk of tho Lands and Survey Department at Nelson, who is being transferred to Auckland, was th& recipient oi a presentation from his fellow officers of the local service in Nelson yesterday morning. The presentation which was made by Mr F.-AV. Flanagan, Commissioner of Crown Lands, consisted 01 a massire barometer and a set of carvers and silver fish knives and forks. Mr Flanagan testified to the high esteem in which Mr Bedgrave was held by his colleagues, and Messrs Hay, Sadd and de Castro made reference to tho loss sustained by tho departure from Nelson of Mr Redgrave. The presentation was sutiably acknowledged by Mr Redgrave, who stated that he had been in the Nelson office 23 years. It was with regret that ho was' severing his connection with Nelson, but ho intended to return hero on Ills retirement. Mr Redgrave has been in the Civil Service for 32 years. The drawing in connection with the art union of the recent Garrison Hand's bazaar resulted as follows: — '■ First prize ticket, No. 992, second prize 828 ; and third prize 3,936. The winners were not known on Saturday night. The winners of the other prizes were : wedding cake, Mr Earl, Richmond, No. 95; bicycle, Miss E. White, No. 305; hall stand, Miss Barltrop, No 25 ; hand painted mirror, Mrs Millar, No 4,295 ; carved table, Mr Vaughan, No 278 ; sewing machine, A. Shone, No 40 ; push cart, F. Hughes, No 4,025. Miss McDonald and Mr Richards acted as supervisors of the drawing. The Fire Brigade carried out another test of the city water supply recently, and in the presence of tbe Mayor, Cmncillors W.S. Hampson. T. A. jField, W. McConcttie, A. H. Bialey, VV. K. Turner, and Mr Aitcbeson Smith, City Engineer. Proceeding first to Brook street, connections were made witn the principal main, from which a pressure of 80 lbs- to the square inch was obtained with six jets. With one pet, cutting off the high level servica, a pressure of 115 lbs was re corded. A test was afterwards made at the corner of Trafalgar and Hardy streeti, where the pressure was 501bs to the square inch, with four leads of hose, toe whole of the water supply- being' diverted to the city. The test was regarded as satisfactory, but tbß City Engineer expects that much better results will be obtained when the new weir is completed. The Nelson Amateur Swimming Club opened the season at the Marine Baths on Tuesday, when, considering tho election excitement in town, the attendance was very satisfactory. On. account of the poor tides prevailing at present several items had to be cut out of the programme through insufficiency of water in the baths thus demonstrating the urgent necessity existing in .Nelson for the erection of up-to-date baths, The following were the .successful competitors in the various events : — 50 yards, first heat J. Emerson 1, H. Pettit 2. Second heat J. Gabrielson 1, A. Allen 2. Final heat A. Allen" 1, H. Crampton 2. Neat header :' F. Braithwaite 1, J. Emerson 2. Leap frog : C. Graham and Crampton 1. * The polo match proved very very interesting, th_6 'score being four all on the' call of time. Mr it. Andrew and Mr C. H.
