lifter it Became evident that a Second ballot would-be required, Mr lAtmore met his Committee at the nooms, which were crowded with his supporters. Upon entering the - rooms Mr Atmore was greeted with three hearty cheers. . The chairman of the committee then addressed the meeting and referring briefly to the contest said ho considered the chances in the second ballot were decidedly in Mr Atmore s favour. (Applause.) They were not defeated; that night's polls simply marked a' stage in the contest and lie was satisfied that Mr Atmore would be elected next week. (Loud applause.) '.'.., , Mr Atmore said there was absolutely nothing to discourage any of thorn. They had set out to win and they were going to. (Applause.) The total number of votes cast was surprisingly small when one considered the number on the roll. He had to thank the members of his committees very sincerely for tho loyal way in which they had worked to further his candidature, and . he was feeling very sure that the next .poll would give him the position ho had " sought for the last six years. lApplanse.) His motto was "Nil Desperandum." — -Communicated.
