The directors of the Nelson Freezing Company, Limited, paid a visit of inspection to the works: now in course of erection at Stoke yesterday afternoon. Splendid progress i sbeiirmade by the contractor, Mr: Andrew Millar, andf the buildings will, if-the present rate-of progress is continued, be ready for occiipation before the contract time expires at the end of January. The slaughter house and manure and tallow rooms are near ing completion,: and the cold stores and freezing chambers " and power house are well under way. The directors expressed themselves as highly pleased with... the progress made. Applications for shares in the company are still coming in, and there is every prospect of the company haying a successful season. Already some 20,000 sheep have been promised for the ..first year's operations, and this does not include sheep from several large'farmers ..who have not yet notified the company of the number they intend sending to the works, so. that it-is quite.'possible that the. number may be increased by some thousands. In many-parts of the district farmers are sowing rape and turnips for fattening sheep. for freezing purposes.
