RETIREMENT OF MR BEUKE.

AN APPRECIATIVE RESOLUTION Before the meeting of the Waimea County Council concluded yesterday the Chairman (Councillor Best) referred to tlie fact that it was tlie last meeting of the present council ..and that one of their-number, Councillor Beuke.. was not seeking re-election. Ho moved: "That this.Council places on record its high appreciation of the services rendered by. Councillor Beuke, who has been a member of tho Council continuously for twentyone years. This: Council very much regrets that he has decided not to allow. himself to be again nominated to the Council.''- In speaking to the motion he said Councillor Beuke had stuck to his district well and his chain at the table had been seldom vacant. He hoped his successor would serve the ratepayers as well as Councillor Boiike had done. He wished him long lire and prosperity. Councillor Macmahon, in- seconding the motion, said that Councillor Beuke had never allowed differences on the Council to interfere with his private friendships. He had served his riding faithfully and well. "! Councillor Everett expressed his entire accorc\ with the, remarks -of the pi-evious speakers. ' Councillor Beuke had not been a selfiSh member, although he had always been alive to the districts of his own; riding. Councillor Beuke could rest assured that he would take away with him the good wishes, of the members of.the Coiincil. ... '..>. Councillor Gill endorsed the remarks of "the previous speaker. •Ho regretted that Councillor Beuke. was leaving the Council after ah luihlemished record of twenty-one years' service.. They all worked for the good of the whole county, and if the policy of the present Council was pursued in a few years lie was sure their roads and bridges would bo in perfect order. Councillor Hoult added ' a few words aiid the motion was carried unanimously, amidst loud applause. In reply Councillor Beuke expressed his heartfelt thanks to meinbersfor their kindly remarks; During his long term as a member of the Council he had always been on terms of friendship with members. He mentioned that he had only missed one -meeting of ilie ■ Council- in . 21 years. Ho paid a'tribute to the Council's officers and concluded his remarks by again thanking members for their kindness. The Chairman took occasion to refer in high "terms of commendation to tho efficiency of the Council's offi-, cers. He also thanked the reporters for their impartial reports of the Council's proceedings. •Councillor Everett moved •'• a hearty vote of thanks to the Chairman and referred to the excellent manner in which he had presided over the meetings. This was seconded. by Councillor' Macmahon and carried by acclamation.
