Marie Molen, who celebrated her fjoldon wedding with her husband Jean at Brussels was so overcome with emotion that she died. Roars of laughter greeted the appearance of a supplier at Hawera butter factory ono morning recently. A Government inspector was visiting the factory, a fact which was known the day previously, and the supplier in question drove in to the factory whitewashed from head to foot. It is not . known whether tho inspector appreciated the joke. Referring to the "wild man" Fitzgerald, who was recently found near Carcoar (N.S.W.), with "an abnormal growth of hair, and whose death has since been reported. Mr F Heldt, of Apiti, writes: — "Tho story of this man brings to mv mind the very early days of the Thames gold field. The Fitzgerald brothers were well known, and the, taller of the two. Jack, wore his hair long enough to reach his shoulders, . and had strange ideas about it. even then saying that he would lose his Bt7-ength if it were cut off. His hair was red. or a bright auburn in colour, and he looked a remarkable fi-rure. He was about 6ft 2in or Sin tall, and was one of the finest athletes in the colonies, but wont down before a half-caste named ManniiiL';, son of ex-Judge Manning, at a sports meeting held at Tararu about 186°."
