— ♦ TROUBLESOME CHARGE. Lionel Terry pn-sents a~diniuiiu problem to lio'tta tl:e Mental Hospita and the Lyttelton Gaol authorities (says the " i'ress" .if November 17th). It is only a month or two since he attempted to burn down the LyLtelton Gaol, in which he has been confined for the past y*-ar or two. He made anotter effort to fire the building by bnrrmg a hole in the celling of the lower storey of the building and attempting to burn the records and papers stored in the upper storey, but this scbemf) was also nipped in the bud. Many of bis privilege? were then taken a way from bim, and be was confined to a cell instead ofj|being allowed to live in the hospital liu>ilding. Since then be bB9 occasioned the Chief 'Jaol»r arid his assistants considerable anxiety. It has bsen nec?ssary to have a warder with Terry day and night, to keep a strict watch over Jihimand prevent him from doing further miiC ief. In the dead of night Terry ofteu commencea to shout and call out ac the top of bis voice, and he frequently adiressss the warders in insulting terms. During the past few" weeks Terry bas refused to take his food, and this extraordinary conduct has been a fresh source oE anxiety to the gaol authorities. It has been^found necessary to resort to "tube feeding" to prevent him from ' starving himself, and this method of feeding bas had to be oarried out by the Mental Hospital doctors, Dra Gow and Jeffries, who take it io turn to make daily visits to the gaol for the purpose of feeding Terry. It is understood that arrangements are being made to transfer Terry from the gaol and place him under the direct supervision of the Mental (Hospital authorities.
