NELSON HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY

SUMMER SHOW. The Summer Show of the Nelson Horticultural Society will open at the Drill Hall this afternoon at three o'clock. Classes are provided for practically, all seasonable flowers and it is expected that the display of roses will be the finest that has ever been seen in Nelson. Although ■the rain of > the past two days may have spoiled some blooms the exhibition will not 'be materially affected as 'many enthusiasts have had their roses under .cover for some days past. A good display of pot plants may also beelooked for and the children's buttonholes' will be a very large class if the children display the same enthusiasm as they did at the bulb show. ' : There will be 17 decorated tables —a record number. These will doubtless furnish keen competition, and prove a feature of the show. The ros,e judges, Dr Redman, of Picton, and Mr Thos Waugh, of the Hutt, arrived in Nelson yesterday. The judging will commence .^at,; 11 a.m. to-day,'^ and the" show will be open -to the: public at 3 p.m. The shmv will be open as follows : From 3 to 5.30 p.m., and -from 7 to 10 p.m. to-day ; -and from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday. School children Syill ' be admitted on Saturday morning at the small charge of 3d. ; Entries closed last evening _at nine o'clock and the number constitutes a record. -The rose classes :have filled well and there should be a magnificent display of blooms.
