SECOND BALLOTS.
Wellington, JNOV. io. The Clnef Electoral OlHcer states that at the first appearance twentytwo second ballots will be required in the following electorates:—Wellington South, East, North ?md Suburbs; Dunedin North ; Ashburton ; Palmerston ; Wanganui : Manawatu; Hawka's Bay; Qaraldine ; Ohmemuri; Thnaiu; Egmonf, Tuapeka; Pahiatua, Gisborne; Hurunui; Bay of Plenty; Avon; Waitemata; and Nelson. All these Uke place on Tuesday, excapt the Bay of Plenty; but in one or two cases, such as Nelson and Gisborne, tbe necessity for another ballot may disappear when the absent votes are all received.
"ridiculous to suggest that there is any indication of a freehold victory, because the threo Government supporters who have been defeated are ■jII staunch freeholders. The true t;:i;i'iifii::'.:!Ci? of Mr MrNab's defeat JirTs in t'do strong hostility towards t!;c; Government, which will be found all over Southland because of_ its action in placing the sum of £5000 upon the Estimates as compensation to Meikle.
