(From Our Own Correspondent.) Thera was a fairly large crowd outside the post office until a late hour on olection night, waiting for the returns from tha various polliDg booths. Mr G W: Jenkins was to the fore as usual wiih a large board, showing the results, and a word of thanks is due to this gentleman for his exertions. When the result of the local electoral contest was nearly completed, and Mr li. Mclfenzie's return was assured, that gentlem;in, in response to urgent culls by the crowd, mounted a temporary platform and addressed the gathering. Hn regretted that some of his polifc£cn.l and psr9anal friuuds had hoen dti'eatocl at the polls, notably t'ae ox-Mmi3tor of L:\ntls, Mr R. McNab. He thanked his supporters heartily for placing him at the tip ot the poll for the tifth consecutive time, and ho assured all thoso presant that his bi-st efforts would be used for the benefit of fcuo whole electorate. The following are the additional returns : — Stephens' Island.. 4 0 10 Tia Ora (N.W. Bay) 12 2 4 0 There was some confusion in regard to the count of tho licensing papers at tho Brook street school. Tho first return was given as : Continuance 149, reduction 128, no license 1-15. Later the return was given as: Continuance 144, reduction 8, no license 28. This was again altered to : Continuance 149, reduction 128, no license 145. A recount of the papers took place yesterday at tho offico of tho Returning Officer, with the result that the figures are now given as : Continuance 149, reduction 131, no license 145, informal 20. Three ballot papers bearing tho "restoration of licenses" issue were inadvertently issued to voters at this booth. These contain two lines only, the top one being for restoration. As this was crossed out in each case and it was the evident intention of the voters to "strike out the top line," it was agreed by the Deputy Returning Officer and scrutineers to count the votes as for reduction and no license.
